INITIAL SITUATION

Kimberly Kelly never imagined herself as a business owner. While she was receiving her MBA from the University of Connecticut she envisioned herself being a top saleswoman; however the more experience she had in sales the more she found a disconnect between her passion for helping her clients and meeting quotas and chasing incentives. This disconnect is what led her to found Trade Credit Specialty.

Trade Credit Specialty is a company focused on extending business credit to buyers. By avoiding pressuring sales metrics Kimberly is able to take a holistic view at her clients and put them in situations that are right for them, not what some metric or number on a screen would tell her to do. The business was founded by Kimberly back in 2020.

HOW THE SBDC HELPED

Kimberly first engaged with the Widener SBDC back in the summer of 2020. She was looking for assistance with forming her LLC and actually getting her business off the ground. Via one-on-one consulting Kimberly was able to form her company and also identified a new area of a assistance, starting a website. By continued collaboration with her consultant, Kelly was able to launch tradecreditspecialty.com to help attract and convert potential clients. She’s also engaged with the Widener University Management 451 Course in which a team of students performed research for her to help her business grow.

Through her ongoing endeavors with the Widener SBDC, Kelly continues to network and receive business development services. As Trade Credit Specialty advances, Kelly is focused on keeping the company client oriented and focused on a holistic approach to helping her clients.

SUCCESS

Trade Credit Specialty’s goal is to help their clients in every aspect possible when exploring insurance products, including providing technical assistance throughout the whole process. Kimberly in particular feels a tremendous sense of pride and accomplishment when she does this, in several instances she’s helped her small business clients save over $50,000 in fees. It’s moments like those that are most fulfilling to Kimberly and is why she doesn’t use sales goals her quotas in her company
